Fire Door Inspector Responsibilities include:
- Conducting thorough fire door inspections using provided templates and in accordance with relevant regulations, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, the Fire Safety Act 2021, and the Fire Safety (England Regulations 2022).
- Supporting customers in ensuring their fire doors meet fire safety standards.
- Working directly with Responsible Persons to address and provide solutions for fire doors failures.

Fire Door Inspector Role Structure
As a Fire Door Inspector, you will be part of a national team of inspectors supported by an office-based administration team. This team will handle all your work scheduling via a calendar system, removing administrative tasks outside of report completion. You will have an individual team leader as your main point of contact to ensure swift and consistent communication.
Employment Basis
This role is offered on a freelance self-employed basis, providing you with the freedom to develop your own opportunities while avoiding conflicts of interest related to inspection findings. This structure has been successfully employed by our fire risk assessors since 2007, offering benefits to Safe I.S. Ltd, the Fire Door Inspector, and the end user/customer.
Fire Door Inspector Individual Requirements
We are looking for someone with:
- A strong enthusiasm for fire safety and a passion for excellent service.
- Competency in conducting fire door inspections.
- Relevant fire door inspection qualifications, these must be either - Awarding Body for Building Education (ABBE) Level 3 Award in Fire Door Inspection or FDIS (Fire Door Inspection Scheme) Certified Inspector Course.
- Registration with or willingness to register with the National Association of Fire Door Inspectors (NAFDI) or the FDIS Certified Fire Door Inspector Register
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a fire safety-related role.
- Ideally, experience conducting fire door inspections in both residential and commercial premises.
Assessment / Property Types
Our business primarily involves inspecting domestic and commercial properties under 8000 Sq Ft, for clients ranging from large national corporations to individual shop/flat/HMO owners. We also inspect larger industrial units, domestic dwellings, and schools.
During the setup process, we will discuss the types of inspections you are competent to complete and allocate work based on that agreement.
Daily Schedule/Remuneration
On average, the role involves visiting 3-4 smaller sites per day (under 8000 Sq Ft), though this varies with the size of the premises. Remuneration is based on a price-per-inspection structure including a standard flat rate plus a specified amount per fire door inspected, with a competitive pricing structure provided upon application.
Location of Works
You can choose the areas you cover, defined by postcode areas, with inspections scheduled only within your chosen areas. This allows flexibility and control over your work locations.
Types of Roles Available
We have vacancies for both part-time and full-time Fire Door Inspectors, with roles available from a minimum of 4 days per month to 5 days per week (on-site). Working availability is flexible, with monthly schedules provided in advance.
